ok heres the slice,

I just got a compactflash reader/writer and i have a nice FORMATED 8mb card.
ive tried every thing from messing with the bios usb settings all the way to making some home made drivers.

when i turn on the machine and i have the usb reader plugged in THE WHOLE THING DOESNT DO DIDDILY!
when i plug the reader in when the os (win me) fully loaded it just keeps the power on and does nothing else.
The os DOES recognize that there is a usb device plugged in and it is of course calling it an "unknown device".

i really need some help here people because this is the only way i wana transfer files to this thing.

does any one know about MASS STORAGE drives

PS: my desktop system is running the same exact version and configuration of winME as the webplayer.

You need to load the drivers for the USB reader. Go to the manufacturers site and get them. Once they're loaded on the webplayer you should be able to read the compact flash. I've used a SanDisk reader on the webplayer. I used the Win98 lite image.

alrighty then,

thanks for your help kcr1, but it seems that the weplayer doesnt give out full usb power.

info:

usb port output- 3.5 volts
regular usb port power requirments- 5 volts / 15 volts

solution:

a self powered usb hub

I would recomend that every one uses a usb hub for any usb products.

Is that 3.5V reading being maintained even after the operating system boots?
I have noticed the low voltage on the port prior to the USB driver loading in windows 98, and I had to turn on "USB Legacy" to get power to the USB port when booting FreeBSD.
But this is only on _some_ of my webplayers. At least one seems to always send power to the USB port.
