Lost my HD!

I have a 6GB HD in my webplayer, loaded with win98se. WOrking fine for several months. Tonight, I turned the unit on and walked away to fix/eat dinner. WHen I got back, It was locked in the screen saver. It started having a hard time booting into windows (got into safe mode once), and now doesn't even acknowledge the hard drive. It's not listed during boot, or on the screen the BIOS shows listing the found hardware before loading the OS. I took the drive out and placed it in another computer which can read it fine--everything appears to be on it.

How can I get the WebPlayer to find it again?

Thanks,
--Bob
P.S. I've checked the cable and BIOS settings--all appears to be in order.

Got it back. I thought the BIOS looked okay, but was wrong. The IDE controller had gotten disabled. Don't know how that happened--I certainly didn't do it. Nor did I explicitely reload defaults!

After system hung, I had to power off and on to reboot. Windows would not load--kept hanging, so I booted into safe mode (HD still working). Safe mode loaded fine, so I reboot. This got me into Windows, but my display resolution was wrong, so I changed both the resolution and the color depth. I then rebooted (as the system told me to), and from then on, NO HD. Something in that process evidently changed the BIOS setting.

Anyway, it's back working--the only thing I lost besides time is my HD activity light as I broke off one of the wires during one of the several plugging/unplugging of the HD cable. That CAN be fixed!

The bios gets re set if the power gets disconnected during boot. I've had that happen a few times......

That would explain it. Since Windows hung during the reboot, I had to power-cycle to restart.

One thing I also noticed. I can change the BIOS password to anything I want and it accepts and remembers it. If, however, I change it to a blank password (leave the "new password" field blank), the BIOS screen says that the password is cleared, but it really restores the original schw... password.
