Have I bought the wrong network card

I just bought the network card above on ebay, but Im starting to think I have the wrong one. The one above is a type II mini PCI, is the webplayer a type III?

WHat internal (not USB) network cards have been used on the webplayer?

Have a dropped a doo doo?

I also tried one of these cards. I was unable to get it to work (it would act like it was working but never send/receive packets under both freebsd and windows 98 - I tried returning, and trying a second one and it made no difference.) The cards that do seem to work are ones with intel chipsets on them. I have successfully used: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2050788224

What driver are you using? Could you post the url?

I downloaded a couple drivers from xircom/intels site, but they don't work.

I'm using the driver I have on my website: \http:jpe45305.homeunix.org
Note that these cards will not reset properly: if you restart windows instead of powering down windows will tell you the card is not working and the driver needs to be installed (which is not true: power off and the card will work.)

hi jpe_dty,
if i buy one of these cards mentioned in your post (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2052650252) will it have a built in RJ45 ethernet port so that i can directly plug in the ethernet cat5 cable from a router. Will i need any special cable/port that i need to buy? also will it have a telephone wire jack too? or do i need a special cable/port that will connect to the mini pci card in one end and give me a ethernet RJ45 and telephone RJ11 ports at the other end. thanks.

sorry. i searched and found that the hp part that is available does eactly that. i hope it works with this mini pci card.

The hp cable talked about elsewhere on the board does in fact work with those mini-pci cards.

any update on whether 3Com 3CN3AC1556B card works or it plain doesn't work with the webplayer. this sells a lot in ebay and i want to know whether it works before i buy it.

I would avoid the 3com card. I could not make it work. I could install drivers, and it would _act_ like it was working, but it would never send out or receive packets. Again, I have successfully used cards with intel chips on them.

a lot these cards are going for ~$10 at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2057785070 (i am not the seller)

i guess these are the 3com cards and may not work with the webplayer.

When It arrives, it turned out to be mispackaged and was a modem only card, so I got a refund.

I ended up buying a Xircom MiniPCI 10/100 NIC only, IBM part no 08K3347 like this type http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=20319&item=2087713306
for $20 a month or two ago.

That seems to work OK but is very intermittent - it sometimes stops working for no apparent reason, and a reset doesnt fix it, only a power cycle. I think it may be the power down capability of the card, but am not sure.

Ive been using Win98 but when I get My DOC working (see alternate post) Ill reflash it and give LINUX a go - hopefully it will be more stable.
