Regulated 5V Source on the systemboard?

So I've spent a good chunk of time searching the boards looking for an answer. I have a Lucent Orinoco USB Silver Client WAN unit attached to the Webplayer, and the Webplayer keeps reseting it. I can only get about 6KBPS before it times out and resets, and starts over. I've patched Windows 98, I've changed the USB to the OpenHCD device, I've turned off Legacy USB Support. All no go.

Now, it looks like it's because the 5V line is too high in the Webplayer. So, I know that I can find the answer out myself, but I'm not near my Webplayer right now, so I can't whip out the multimeter. Anyone know off the top of their heads if there's a clean regulated 5V source on the systemboard, that's not like 5.5V like the power that comes in from the PSU?

I'm thinking I can cut the trace on the systemboard to one of the USB headers, and hook a wire up from the 5V source to the 5V pin on the header.

Thanks!

If you really want to do this, I'd recommend that you get a 7805 from the Rat Shack and use it to regulate the output. It shouldn't be a big job and will be more reliable - damn I think I'll try it.

Great idea. I'll definitely give it a go tonight. I take it all the 5V in the webplayer then is the raw and too-high voltage coming from the PSU?

Alright. No go. Still getting the random hangups that prevent a fast wireless connection. The regulator gives the USB port 4.9x volts unloaded (measured at the end of a USB A->B cable.)

I guess I gotta try something else. Anyone have any ideas?
