I need a screen

New MessageI need a screen (modified 0 times) Mitchell
If any of you that have a 'dead' iopener want to get a bit of $ back on it, I am in need of a new screen. Mine tipped over and cracked the lcd.

So, if you scratched a trace, broke the socket, fried the board, I would be willing to pay you something for it to get your screen.

Thanks.

please email me at: mark@martinsfeed.com

FYI, while not immediately useful, there are some decent screens avaialable for about $50.

Check eBay, an search for duo 280c

As an added bonus, you get a 68040 system, ram, hd, cpu...

At least you can run FreeBSD on them.

as an experienced lcd "finder", the best way to find a specific model is to scour the web for that particular part number, call the guys at http://www.flat-panel.com and see if they have it, and to search ebay daily for the appropriate part. Also, trying to find the laptop models that use that particular screen can also be helpful, as often ebay listings don't have the particular manufacturer part number, just the laptop model that they are from

Well, they are available plenty cheap, have good rez, way better than the IO, and refresh is great. Should be easy to get some schematics for them, as compared to the ones on the IO's. Boykster seems to know his way around displays pretty well, so he can probably answer the 'how' question best.

I am totally new to this LCD screen stuff. Will the Duo screen plug in to my Scovery if I mod some connector wires or is it more complicated?.........if so where would I go for info?.....or at least give me a clue on what words might yield something in a search.

Sorry, laptop display interfaces are pretty arcane. Seeing as the Macs use them, there should be doc's about, especially since these are discontinued models that have been in the channel forever. Again, Boykster seem to be pretty knowledgeable on the subject, I'd wait for him to reply.

Ideally, there isn't any reason why one couldn't mod an interface to a Scovery or IO, etc. Its all digital after all. Try search to narrow down the make of the display, and then using that add display, interface, etc.
I can try and find one at work, and see who makes the display, from there it should be pretty easy to find schematics from the manf. or Apple maybe. Unfortunately, it isn't going to be a simple PnP hack.
But, you never know, might be relatively easy with some of the brains on this board.

Would be a coup if someone could get a mod like this up, would make the IO much, much more useful.

you can start by trying this site. /www.eio.com/lcdprodt.htm
They have LCD screens and some FAQ on how to setup a LCD. I found them during a search on the Sharp LM64P64 screen I got from HiTechCafe. Looks like you need a special controller card to operate the LCD.
