LCD Display Broken - Now What?
LCD Display Broken - Now What?

New MessageLCD Display Broken - Now What? (modified 0 times) Hoyt
My I-Opener was knocked over and the LCD display is broken. Does anyone have any advice on repairing it? I would guess that the screens are no longer available and I noticed that the price of a new one just went to $400. I was thinking of perhaps integrating it into a monitor case and using the VGA out connector. I have a few VGA and SVGA monitors as candidates. Since breaking the LCD display may happen to others, what would be a good strategy?

Sell it to someone who fried their motherboard.

Well there is hope for your situation, you can still use the I/O as a digital picture frame. Just rip out the broken LCD and replace it with a paper picture of your family, dog, mistress, or all the above you can even change the picture at regular intervals :) best of all no power required.

It's not going to be quick & easy fix.

Your best bet is to find someone who has fried the IO mainboard, and negotiate. The screen itself probably costs more than your original IO, were you to purchase it through aftermarket channels.

That's an interesting idea. I don't know that you'd want to integrate it directly into the monitor case, due to certain RF issues, but a VGA out would at least allow you to make the best of a bad situation.

What does the LCD look like anyway?

What does the LCD look like anyway?

In other words, how badly is it damaged? Cracked screen or what?

The screen is cracked.

How do you know that the LCD is in perfectly good condition if the
motherboard is broken???? Do you see images with pretty colors?

Hey ------- or Shadow or newman or whatever the hell you're calling yourself now.

The motherboard may be damaged by a whole hell of a lot of things, from plugging a 2.5 - 3.5 adapter in incorrectly, to dropping screwdrivers.

If he says his screen is good, IT PROBABLY IS.
