netpliance is nuts

New MessageGet this! (modified 0 times) Chagrin
So I'm sitting at my desk this morning, minding my own business and my cell phone rings. "Hi, it's Cali Garcia from Netpliance. We're just following up with everyone who has failed to activate their i-Openers." So he asks me why I didn't keep the service (I cancelled, of course, as soon as I got it). I told him it took so freaking long to come that I got something else, and that their product is sitting unopened in my closet. Of course, it is actually on my desk at home in pieces - never put it back together after putting my own OS on it. So then he says, well we have all these new service plans, and he starts rattling them off. Finally, after indicating that I wasn't interested he says, "for those who still don't want to use our service we want to buy the box back!" I started to laugh and said you're kidding me right?! He said, "no we want you to be happy, and if you're not happy we'll take it back". I told him I was going to hang onto the box, and that maybe I would give it as a gift. He said, "well if you change your mind here's my name and number". Then he gave me his toll free number and his extension. Is that weird or what!

If they REALLY wanted you to be happy, they'd buy it back the the prevailing rate of $399.00. That way, you could go to CC and get four replacements.

Chagrin,

Where do you guys come up with these fairy tales of Netpliance wanting your I-opener back. I also called to cancel my service and I offered the unit back to them, and they said since it was after the thirty days that it was mine to keep and they would have absolutely no use for it. They did suggest thst I hang on to the unit and watch for their upcoming system upgrades should I wish to reinstate my service. they were very civil and my CC has not been charged any further since I canceled the service. Your tale is very humorous though keep up the imagination. To my knowledge no one has ever had their CC charged the $599.0 for breaching the TOS, if anyone here has please let me know.

Delco - Unlike others I haven't wasted my time on this board making up stories. The call was legit - and it blew me away, that's why I recounted it here. If you want, call Netpliance (800.467.3637) and ask for the gentleman to whom I spoke this morning - Cali (he spelled it for me) Garcia, on extension 3923. I'll keep a tab on the thread to see what you have to say after you call.

It appears that their supply problems are seriously beginning to bite - evidently, they can't get new stock from Quanta at the original $267 price (heck, the screen alone now costs more than that, and nobody is making small DSTN screens anyway), and there's no alternative supplier who can design and manufacture in volume before October (it's a pretty complex, state-of-the- art competitive notebook design, so that's no surprise either). Of course, a company that has spent just 300k on R&D cannot even begin to understand the issues related to designing and manufacturing a product like this. They must have thought 'We'll just go to another supplier and have them make units based on a prototype that we give them'. Yeah, right.

No they were thinking, "By the time the units run out we can cash in and file Chapter 7", or whatever corps(e) bankruptcy is called.

Hale and Savage are laughing all the way to the bank, and working on their next scam.
