Here is a free camera and they will post your photos on the web for free also (the first time). Sounds like a cheap way to share your work if the camera has enough quality.

http://www.photoworks.com/specials/yahoo/frmfreecamdev.asp?bancode=yh17

These speakers are free after rebate. I wonder if they could be modified to work with the i-opener?

A wireless version

Here is the really cheap one:

Or how about a joy stick, I remember someones 3 yr old daughter playing with a blue smurf on this board somewhere.

http://www.cyberrebate.com/catalog/product.asp?sts=nwc45&dept%5Fid=1026&pf%5Fid=11240&root%5Fdept%5Fid=1001&root%5Fdept=Computer+%26+Office&first%5Flevel=1007&first%5Flevel%5Fdept=Computer+Accessories&second%5Flevel=1026&second%5Flevel%5Fdept=Peripherals&mscssid=EDRCK8UPB1SR2PVH00JP4RUP2A6W6QNE

Or this one.

Here is a fee Keyboard;

Now if I could just find a free HDD or SODIMM.

Thanks for the camera link. I do have a problem with Cyber Rebate though. Not service or anything, its just that the prices are so jacked up, that yes you may get a full-wash rebate, but they are holding on to a large chunk of your cash (I assume using it for venture capital or something) while you are waiting.

I tried cyberrebate last week for the first time. I bought something cheap just as a test. I ordered the Stormtrooper keychain for $0.99. Arrived a few days later in a big box full of styrofoam peanuts...and nothing else - no keychain. I need to contact them and let them know but that doesn't make me feel too good about them. I'm glad I didn't pay for $150 wireless speakers :)

I signed up for the camera and was waiting to see if anyone posted anything positive about Cyberebates. Then I was going to jump on the wireless speakers and a joy stick. Maybe I'll just run a test on those cheap speakers first.

Does anyone have a good feel as to the feasability of using the wireless speakers and either of those joy sticks for the i-opener.

RE:IR keyboard to PS/2 port? (modified 0 times) Kudzu

I was browsing the Radio Shack.com site this evening when I came upon this
http://www.radioshack.com/CAT/Gateway/1,3654,,00.html

It's free, and with a little luck, you might be able to hack it . Kudzu

Hey, I got Mine. Anyone Hack around the Software Yet ?
I would just like to use it as a Bar Code Scanner, without their Software.

Kudzu: Poke around on www.slashdot.org - there's been a few threads on the :CueCat bar code scanner. No luck turning it into a general-purpose IR receiver yet; it's all been software hacks.

(FYI - on the privacy angle, :CueCat readers appear to be serialized - if you give a name and address to RatShack to get a :CueCat and use the included software, They(tm) will know who you are and what you're scanning.)

CueCat Fun ?

Go into just WordPad & Scan BarCodes

This Page Explains the Output.
http://uscan.sourceforge.net/upc.txt

or Here it is.
divide the UPC into 4 groups of three digits
use the scheme below to translate each digit into its output

1 2 3

0 C3 n Z
1 CN j Y
2 Cx f X
3 Ch b W
4 D3 D 3
5 DN z 2
6 Dx v 1
7 Dh r 0
8 E3 T 7
9 EN P 6

Thanks Kudzu & Tackhead for the Info.

If you really like free stuff -- t-shirts, mouse pads, etc. -- I recommend these two sites. They're addictive:

starfish's explanation of how to decrypt the barcode was not very clear, so i will elaborate on it.

here is an example barcode that i scanned:
.C3nZC3nZC3nYCxfZE3b0CxnX.fHmc.C3T0ENz7DNTZDNf2.

the periods mark the different parts of the encrypted barcode:
group 1 = C3nZC3nZC3nYCxfZE3b0CxnX
group 2 = fHmc
group 3 = C3T0ENz7DNTZDNf2

group 1 is the serial number of the cuecat scanner (i reformated it for easy decoding):
C3 n Z C3 n Z C3 n Y Cx f Z E3 b 0 Cx n X

use this chart to decode it:

1 2 3

0 C3 n Z
1 CN j Y
2 Cx f X
3 Ch b W
4 D3 D 3
5 DN z 2
6 Dx v 1
7 Dh r 0
8 E3 T 7
9 EN P 6

so this: C3 n Z C3 n Z C3 n Y Cx f Z E3 b 0 Cx n X
is this: 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 2 2 3 8 3 7 2 0 2 reformated for easy reading as serial number: 000000001223837202

group 2 is the barcode type
use this chart:

Decoded type Encoded Type Notes
977 ENr0 Bookland EAN ISSN.
978 ENr7 Bookland EAN ISBN.
979 ENr6 Bookland EAN ISBN.
C39 ahb6 Code 39
E08 bNn7 EAN-8?
E13 bNjW EAN-13?
E32 bNbX EAN-13?
E35 bNb2 EAN-13?
E82 bNTX EAN-8?
E85 bNT2 EAN-8?
IB2 cGfX ISBN?
IB5 cGf2 ISBN?
IBN cGen ISBN?
IS2 cHbX ISSN?
IS5 cHb2 ISSN?
ISN cHan ISSN?
J08 cxn7 JAN-08?
J13 cxjW JAN-13?
J32 cxbX JAN-13?
J35 cxb2 JAN-13?
J82 cxTX JAN-8?
PLS eW8q Plessey Code?
UA2 fGjX UCC UPC-A?
UA5 fGj2 UCC UPC-A?
UE2 fGzX UCC UPC-E?
UE5 fGz2 UCC UPC-E?
UPA fHmc UCC UPC-A
UPE fHmg UCC UPC-E

Unconfirmed/Other supported barcode types
CC! aabi CueCat:
CBR aaer Codabar
128 CNf7 UPS tracking, Code 128?
ITF cHCf ITF

so fHmc is barcode type UPA (what ever the hell that is)

group 3 is the actual barcode (reformatted):
C3 T 0 EN z 7 DN T Z DN f 2

use this chart to decode it:

1 2 3

0 C3 n Z
1 CN j Y
2 Cx f X
3 Ch b W
4 D3 D 3
5 DN z 2
6 Dx v 1
7 Dh r 0
8 E3 T 7
9 EN P 6

so this: C3 T 0 EN z 7 DN T Z DN f 2
is this: 0 8 7 9 5 8 5 8 0 5 2 5 reformatted as 0 87958 58052 5

hope this helps. i what to write a little windows program that will do the decryption for you.

(this message is also posted in the Breaking News Area, sorry for the repost...)

More :cue :cat fun:

It doesn't seem to like my I-Opener... Haven't tried it hooked up directly, but through the PS/2 splitter it renders the keyboard inoperable.
Oh well, wasn't going to use it with my IO anyway.

I plugged the decoding scheme from this thread into a VB program for Windows, so you can have fun with the :Cue :Cat without installing
their Big Brother-ware. As the last poster has mentioned, the decoding scheme doesn't work on beverages that I've tried it on either, so it
may not be complete... If someone figures the whole thing out, I'll update the program.

Just for the sake of mentioning it, this program AND post was authored on my I-Opener... :)

http://members.aol.com/amdinside/catcrack.exe

You'll need vbrun300.dll, possibly a few VBX's and maybe some voodoo magic to get this to run - I just wanted to get something put
together quickly. If it says you need runtime files, you'll probably be able to find them easily on any major search engine.
