Just picked one up at the Totem Lake C-usa. Stopped in on a whim again JUST BEFORE CLOSING TIME and asked if SKU# 274376 is in yet, Hardware manager wearing new white knitted polo shirt with black trim looked it up and he said they are in! About 14 or so are on commitment and 3 available.
He also explained to me that the isp sign up is NO LONGER REQUIRED IN THE STORE. He stated that the machines had been recalled earlier for a modification to the "chip" inside. Now they can only be used with the netpliance ISP service so they are not worried about hassling the customer about signing up for ISP anymore, the customer can do it at home now. said that I don't have a problem with that at all .

Paid $99 cash + tax and did not sign a thing. The sticker states "BY OPENING THIS BOX" blah blah blah...He would only sell me one but said come back tommorrow....(That's ok I will let one of you guys get one). I've got 6 now, 1 demo, 2 early versions no seal and 3 still in box with the "if you open box seal". No resales @ e-bay here!

I kinda feel sorry for the folks who got gouged by others on e-bay all they had to do was wait........

Date on box 2000/07/12

Interesting.

CUSA's web page still says in store activation required, but if they have "fixed the chip" who are we to argue! Let us know if you have any problems re-flashing it -- or replacing it with a V1 chip.

Just a kind word of advice, Check your Local C-usa before ordering from someone else....You may save yourself a hundred bucks!

I did an availabilty check on the C-usa website and it shows out of stock for all the stores listed in my area.....
But I really don't think it's a reliable indicator.....

New MessageI got one more ! 7 and that's it! (modified 0 times) ioioioinfoioioio
Ok, I just got back from the Totem lake C-usa. The same Hardware manager allowed me to buy another one. I could not see his name but he is wearing the same type C-usa white "polo" shirt with black trim, Has a "sony" logo on his left front.

I talked with him a brief moment and now I seriously take back my earlier comment about just knowing what the box looks like....

HE REALLY IS A NICE GUY! Real pleasant to deal with, Wow! C-usa could benefit with more folks like this guy! He seems to pretty much know about the i-Opener mods (He says he has one himself!)

He did tell me that these are being discontinued and a new version is coming and will be selling for $399.99.

He said the isp requirement has been withdrawn (temporarily?) and the store presently is filling the pre-paid and special back orders.

He said there are now 2 left that are not allocated to anyone, available to whoever wants them (He's only selling one per customer per day).......

Better hurry up, Go to the corporate sales desk!
betcha the 2 will be gone by this afternoon!

He also said that those folks who ordered (Not the pre-pay's) and do not pick them up in a week or so they will be released for regular walk in sales, There are about 14 being held total (Pre-pays and special orders).

A call to the 1-800 c-usa # the person says the i-Opener has been discontinued!

Bellevue C-USa had Iopeners in stock on sun...but the sign said $199.....strange...partway between the old $99 and the new $399 v2000's....didn't press the salesman, wasn't really looking to buy another one, just curious. I "played stupid" and was asking newbie questions, and said I heard it was $99....sales guy didn't have a good answer, but they're probably either confused, or just trying to make some extra $$ on the sale of what they have left.

cheers,

boykster

I'm wondering of the likelyhood of taking the web site store printout and showing them the $99.00 price. Of course, the printout shows the required TOS.

does the "buying as a gift" technique still work?

(this was the bellevue store)

It's so good to hear that the i-openers are becoming available! Has anyone found a good replacement for freewwweb.com or Worldspy.net (sp?) I was using Freewwweb and with an old browser you could avoid the flashing banners that followed you around. I think enough people did that so Juno picked them up. I'll be working out my fourth one this weekend. Kept one sold one gave one away all nicely hacked! Hack on!
