V4 or V5.. Is that the question? (modified 0 times)

Well I have been reading these damn threads all day. I am 99% sure that I have come up with an answer. See I bought an I-opener yesterday. I took the thing apart. No Epoxy, No Pins Missing. Did have Torx. Well I can get into the BIOS No problem. Did not see if I could get into the splash screen but I do not see why I could not. Have a woman talking when it starts. Unfortunalty I do not have the unit here at work. From what I have read I probably have V4 and not V5 because I can get into the BIOS. Is it possible that I have V3? I am wrong about this? I wish I had more info but again it is not here. So I ordered a new BIOS for BadFlash and hopefully that will be coming in Anyday now. Just let me know if I am headed in the right direction here.

one of the things that made a V3 a V3 was the goop. if you dont have that, and you have a rise CPU you have a V4. if you have a soundchip which is not a yamaha then you have a V5. they both work fine with the badflash bios from the V1 but the sound does not work in windows on the V5s. (according to reports)

you pretty much have to open it and look. the yamaha chip will work under BeOS, the newer chip I cannot say because I dont have it, however I would hazard a guess it would not be supported. to tell if you have the yamaha chip look on the left side of the opened IO as it lays with the screen down and the speakers towards the top. it will be on the left side, a fairly large 1cm x 1cm chip that will say yamaha on it. if you dont have that then you might have the other chip but I dont know because I dont have a V5

Well thanks guys for your help. I will update you tommarow on what I have. I am really wanting it to be V4 so I do not have to get USB speakers. But we shall see tonight. Again thanks for your help.

any luck determining what version it is? if it is a V4 I recommend using BeOS on it, its really a fantastic system and it boots WAY faster than windows. Ive got it plugged into my stereo acting as an MP3 player as of now. Very kewl indeed to have it sitting there with a nifty screensaver running playing music.

What is the ship date on your I/O on the outside of the box? So far, most of the V5's seem to have a July date.
It would be interesting if we could establish a cut off date for the V4's. I have a couple I got at Circuit City with mid-June dates, but I haven't yet had time to take them apart to see what they are.
