What is the CompUSA TOS situation?
What's the story, morning glory?

CompUSA's website reads that a 3-month minimum commitment is required... I went down to the local CompUSA (which is out of stock anyway) and asked to speak with the manager. The manager said the same thing I've seen other people post: the TOS has been extended to 3 years - ouch!

Other posts have mentioned CompUSA releasing I-Openers TOS-free now that they've been modified yet again (v5)... What's the deal?

I got a pre-ordered unit from CompUSA a few days ago without signing a TOS. It was $99.95 + tax. I had only special-ordered it, but not paid for it when I ordered it in April, and it finally came in now. It turned out to be a V5 - bummer. It had the new sticker wording on the carton, but I did not have to sign anything.

While I was picking up my 3 month old order from cusa a few days ago, I overheard the manager saying "we don't do that anymore" when the lady asked about having to sign up in the store.
So I think all the complaints to the A.G. office paid off!
Just for the fun of it I asked them to check stock and there were 5 for the whole west coast! They said they are waiting for the "new model" in october.
I dropped in on CC and had them check the wherehouse, and there were ZERO!
Hope everyone got theirs, if you snoozed this time you LOST!

when you guys ordered, did you actually do an order, or did you just get a raincheck? I had a friend get a raincheck since I was going to mod it for him but it expired after 30 days >:( I tried to have it renewed so I could use it whenever they did come in but the evil store manager expressly forbade that. She was the same one that refused to sell me a websurfer pro without a TOS since they were advertised that way. damn!

I ordered mine back in April, and then canceled a month later - got my money back and all.

Now they've called me and said it's in and asked if I wanted it. I said I didn't have my reciept (sp), but they said a photo-ID would do. Now I have the moral question of whether or not I should go 'steal' it from them.

I asked about TOS, and they said, "If you want to sign up, that's you're business, and you can call them directly."

Seems to be a hit and miss sorta thing. I was in my local CrapUSA and ask about the I-Opener with one of the drones. He indicated that it was discontinued and that they didn't have any. I hit him up about the TOS and he scurried off in search of an answer. Came back and said that I would need to sign up for 3 months before the unit (if they had any) would be released.

Can't these a-holes get their stories consistent??!! Geeze!

I paid cash up front, order was before april 1st but that didn't seem to matter.
I get a different story from every sales drone I talk to at both cc and cusa, so never mind their ignorant rants, talk to a manager.
I may pay the $399 for the "new" one in october after looking it over at the store to make sure it is really "new" just to hack it in spite of it's so called "un-hackability". It will be worth it to shove it in NP's face.

To -pyr-: Mine was technically a special-order, not a rain-check, since it was on their system as an SO. But as they were about to charge my card back in late Mar/early Apr (I don't exactly remember, it may have been Mar 31), it passed 10 PM Central time, and their central computer refused to complete the transaction (at least, this was the explanation given). I was told then: no problem, come in on Monday and pick up the unit and pay for it. Since then, over a dozen Mondays had passed and I had forgotten about it, when I finally got a call to pick it up from the store on July 14th. I paid when I picked it up, and the TOS wasn't even mentioned.

Well, thats too bad for my friend who wanted one then. I specifically told him to order and put money down, but I suppose he thought that a raincheck (from the ads they originally had) was just as good as that. Anyways thanks for the response

Went to pickup my prepaid IO a couple of weeks ago, they tried to add TOS. Raised hell, left. That story is in another post.

Last week called CUSA corporate and mentioned things like fraud and credit fraud, they promised to cough one up. Was called at the end of last week by CUSA Fairfax, VA. Picked it up moments ago, no TOS, $99.95 + tax.

Have not opened box yet.

I know this doesn't refer to CompUSA, please excuse, but this seemed the best place to discuss availability. This afternoon I just went to the Circus City in Fairfield, CA and they have them on display, $99 and no mention of TOS (although I have to admit I didn't inquire). If they are being discontinued there certainly is no indication of it. I guess I'll have to go back and ask for sure. I hate dealing with those people.

all that crap about being discontinued? Ignore it. Ive heard about 5 different times at one CC that they were no longer going to be carrying them (roughly 2 times each before another shipment arrived and I picked one up) and 4 times at a compusa. They were most likely hoping that people would cancel the preorders on them.

I have had no more problems getting them here in the Northwest. I've got my fill of them and the last 2 were V-5's out of a total of 6. C-USA here has not asked me to sign up for the Netpliance ISP service. Paid cash. The "thrill of the hunt" is gone....
(The 2 V-5's are being saved for spare parts.)

Where in the NorthWest are you getting them? Everytime I go in, they're unavailable and won't be in stock. Thanks...

Wannabe, which stores have you tried? In which state?
Listen, my child... to the sound of one hand clapping.

When I was down in Portland, the Jantzen Beach CUSA insisted on an in-store 3 month sign-up ( visiting relatives, I'm not that desperate for an i-opener). The Tukwila CUSA said they had none even though the web site claims some are available. The CC in crossroads claimed to not have any even though their web site said it had some.

I didn't want to post the stores. Now that my secret's out, hordes of people will be rushing to these stores to NOT get i-openers. The stores will see a demand, use the items as leaders, and over order. I can go down at anytime and pick one up. Then, I'll lose my unique coveted status, that I guard greedily, of not having an i-opener.

Hi,
itīs Germany calling again... Iīve been reading about so many people here still getting i-openers without TOS the last days, isnīt there anyone who could buy one and then send it to Germany? I would be willing to ship some German beer to the US if you want me to...
Thanks for your help,

Daniel
