yes.. i'm a l4m3r.. ijust heard about this in the last few days. and to be honest. .. I NEED ONE!!! :) but.. now i'm told that you have to sign a TOS and they cost more now??
is any of this true? could i go to the store tomarow.. buy one for 99$.. or 199$.. obviously not take it home.. since they are way backorderd.. buy a kit.. and a hd.. and then insatll linux on there? or do they require that you sign a million year contract .. wich i don't want.. i'm an experianced pc user.. i have a dsl line.. i don't want a pos IA.. i want a cool new toy.. for reletively cheap.. :)
can this still be done.. or has the manufactureer aken steps to make itnot possible.. that.. is my question..

If you can't get one in the stores, or without a TOS, or they want $400 or something, you can always get one on Ebay for about $130. From what I've heard/read here on this board, the latest version is V5 and it's still hackable but you may not have audio. You can even buy io's that are already hacked on Ebay, but of course you don't know the quality of the hack (could be a mess!).

There are quite a few posts on this board now mentioning that the V5's audio chip is no longer Yamaha. After flashing the bios it seems people aren't able to get the audio to work, as it's not supported in the bios (from what I've heard). I'm waiting for delivery of my first IO, and if it's a V5 I'll live. It's probably just a matter of time before someone here solves the V5 audio puzzle anyhow. Have faith, don't get scared and go for it! I've been reading up on everything IO on this board and elsewhere on the net, and I can't wait to get TO it! Very very do-able.
