hi folks

first i would like to thanks folks at this site for helping me hack/modify my IO. here goes... :

got my IO 3 weeks ago from CC.. it's V4 with Rise266 no goo and pins are intact. upgrade the bios, put new fan in, ide cable. blah blah..

first attempt with Toshiba Mk1926FCV (814MB) CYL1579, H16, S63: DIDN'T work
second attempt with Toshiba MK2720FC (1358MB) CYL2633, H16, S63: DIDN'T work
third attempt with Toshiba 2.1GB forgot the model number WORKS! (it's inside the unit and don't feel like taking it out)

system memory 64MB (was used in tecra 8000)

for both the first and second attempt machine boot but do not go to c: prompt may it's the hard drive? (these 3 drives have the same setup and are BOOTABLE on diff.. machine before i put them into the IO)

setup and installs WinME have no problem it's detects everything accept the video card and the modem.. i have to d/l the video driver (was be able to do 800X600 with option for hi-color and true color and 1 other thing) and i have to manually add the modem into COM1. the sound on the IO is somewhat OK.. i prefer any 3 piece system. setup and installs Hauppage winTV usb (latest driver from their website).. picture quality is SO SO..

so far this is the best investment.. now i can have digital picture frame+TV for my bedroom wall

thanks you guys

hey dorae, PLEASE help me out...

I am trying to install winME on my IO and it doesnt seem to work! The two HD's i have tried boot fine on another PC but I get nothing when I use them on the IO. Sounds like you had the same problem.

Please email me, tad232@aol.com
Thanks

You have to tinker with the formatting of the hard drives to get them to boot. There are lots of combinations of heads, cyls, LBA, AUTO, LARGE, etc. to try. Check the search here for your drive. Someone may have figured yours out.

I haven't found a drive that won't work yet. Be sure of your cable though- even if you got it from me. Use a meter to be sure that no pins are shorted and don't forget that the I-O IDE header is BACKWARD and the top & bottom rows must be swapped on the cable to work.
