I just picked up a 128mb SODIMM at Best Buy for $179.95 that included a $30 mail-in rebate, thus making the total price $149.95.

This compares favorably enough with the best price I could find on pricewatch which is currently $136, especially since I could pick up one today.

The bad news is that Best Buy gets to keep my $30 for a couple of months while I wait for the refund.

Best Buy is a strange place....how good the deals are depends on the individual manager. Of the three stores in my neighborhood one is much better. This summer I bought three Maxtor drives which each came with a free copy of Photoshop 5.0 LE. Then the dummies gave me three rebate cupons, which I sent in, and got three more cds. Three years ago, that same store had a close-out sale on Pansonic cd/pdrom drives. (these cost about $950 new) I bought four for $50 each. The guy didn't know why they were so cheap. Earlier this summer I got a new Compaq 7470 computer, with keyboard and mouse, 6x cdrw, 64meg ram, 20 gig hard drive, amd k2 533....all for $295. They had about 12 available...said it was a discontinued model. You just have to be there at the right time.......

You can usually beat this price at http://www.crucial.com WITHOUT coupons.

Or anywhere else, for that matter.

Both of my 128MB PC-100 compliant dimms were under $80 shipped.

Hi Kudzu,
You know, I'm a bit tired of reading about $80 shipped SODIMM's, please tell us which reputable source online is selling $80 shipped 128MB PC100 SODIMM's? I'd be interested in a place with decent resellerratings.com or decent bizrate.com reviews. The price for SODIMM has been going up of late. I noted you didn't provide a source, please provide one now. Thanks.

You are indeed correct. The current price for the 128mb SODIMM at www.crucial.com is $149.95 without a rebate coupon. Shipping is $5.50 for UPS Ground and $8.50 for UPS Blue. Thanks for the update. In my case, I needed the memory immediately and couldn't wait the two days.

You trying to be offensive justme? Search resellerratings and the rest, maybe you'll find out how shortly after they stop selling them.

Here's a hint, they're called auctions, and some businesses engage in them on ebay. I got the last of mine delivered two weeks ago from California, after the guy contacted me and told me there'd be a delay. It's supposed to be for a toshiba, but it works in mine.

Now I suppose that would be too risky for swingers like you, right? Or do you need me to hold your hand and walk you through the process?

tivrod: I don't get it. It probably costed you about $100+Tax for the IOpener and you spent about $150 just to get the memory upgraded to 128MB. I guessed some ppl just don't care on how to save money.

I'm not sure if the whole idea here is to "save money". We could all have saved the $100 by not buying the thing in the first place, and used our other computer instead. The fact is, going to 128mg ram will help out this computer, which is very slow in it's stock config., in a big way. Almost all computers are helped by a ram upgrade....the I-Opener benefits more than most.

Dsch: Ok, I went down to Fry's on Hamilton in San Jose to check on this $110 128MB Notebook memory. Looking at their wall display only showed memory in the $200 range so I asked the sales person about any special prices. He brought up a screen on his display that showed two lines the 128MB was $199 and the 64MB was $79. So was this some special sale price that you got or are you really talking about desktop memory prices? If you still have the sales receipt can you post the Fry's stock number. Thanks.

Ok, I have checked the Fry's ads for August. The only one for PC-100 128MB memory that I can find is for PC-100 DIMM which is for desktop not notebooks and it costs $119. Date of ad is August 26. It would seem strange for Fry's to sell the more expensive notebook memory for less than desktop. If I go back to June 30th the price for PC-100 128MB desktop DIMM was $109 and on June 16th $99.95.

Ok, on June 10 the first ad for "128MB Laptop memory" no speed rating, price $149 #2676072. This $110 price is not their everyday price and I can not verify it with the old Fry's ads I have back through June of 2000. Comments?

Hi,
I'm not sure if this is where the thread is headed, but if the discussion is for the lowest price from a "reputable" (meaning a well known dealer with decent return service and what not). Well buy.com has sodimm memory (128MB) which works great in my I-Openers (from Crucial) for $123, but I almost always use a $10 or $30 coupon from either flamingoworld.com or from deal-finder.com (careful about deal finder, they appear to maintain control of the url while putting buy.com in a subframe, not sure if spying is going on or not ). Anyway, with coupon and shipping, generally it costs $119 or $115 per stick. This would be 144 pin, pc100 sodimm sdram from crucial which works just great in my I-Openers. Does this help at all? The shipping says back order, and it does take about an extra 3-4 days. If you can wait about 2 weeks (less if you live close to where they ship, in California, though then of course you'll be paying sales tax ) it may be a good deal for anyone interested. Personally I've been happy with it.

Any ideas why sodimm's are so darned expensive right now anyway? Any ideas when the price may break?? (Ohh yes, the part number at buy.com, it's 10243089 ).

If I may also add a rebuttal to kudzu, I don't believe you offered the site where sodimm memory (128mb) is available for $80, could you please offer this businesses website? Thanks

It's really great how several people have listed places where they can --repeatedly-- get a good deal. You just can't rely on an auction, or more precisely, you can't rely on the person selling you something in an auction to be professional, because many times they are not. I'm learning that the hard way right now, having to 'get tough' with the guy who has my money AND the product I purchased but haven't received. What a loser! But I guess I'm a loser too, because I didn't use a credit card. Live and learn.
Anyhow, it was worth it to me to physically take my I-Opener to get my 128meg, so I could verify right then that the memory worked in my machine. Yes, I paid top dollar, but at least I don't have a headache and heartburn and to me that is definitely worth it.
