Hard Drive Power Down
Hard Drive Power Down

I have no option under Win98 SE for setting power down time for the hard drive.
Is it possible to enable this feature somehow, or would a bios upgrade possible fix the problem?

I have a V4 I-Opener re-flashed to V1 using image from #########.

If I boot plain old dos, the bios takes over and powers the drive and display off quite happily, but under Win98, the hard drive stays spinning (similar to backlight problem caused by the wrong driver experienced by many people)

Thanks in advance (and apologies for posting on wrong board earlier :)

rob.

You can search for an old thread. It might be in the "read-only" catagory of the posts.

Anyhow, to get the harddrive or monitor to turn off, u'll have to enter the io bios setup. use a normal keyboard to do this, since u can use it's escape key. in there, dont ask me where, but in there.. u can set the settings and enable those features u seek. then u'll just need to go into "windows" and do a properties on the display to set the monitor to turn off as wel las the harddrive.

have a nice day.

Oh, I searched before posting.
I had the backlight problem - searching revealed this to be caused by a bad video driver choice - it switches off as instructed now.

The hard drive is a different issue.

I have APM enabled in the bios, and the hard drive set to power down after 1 minute. It does so in DOS quite happily, but Windows 98 seems to be keeping it spinning.
The option for 'hard drive' under control panel/power is missing, which confuses me - Win98 overrides most power management options in the bios anyhow.

I'm thinking it's either a bios setting that I haven't noticed (or maybe I need to disable power saving in the bios) - or an updated driver may help - or an updated bios.

Do other I-Opener win/98 users have the hard drive listed under 'power' ? I assume so - if so, are they running the version 1 bios, or is there an update? (I searched for this also, but couldn't find anything definitive)
