Ceiva Internet Picture Frames $249 (plus $50 one
year subscription).

Why can't people make internet devices with an ethernet connection
instead of a damn phone line.
At least as an option. Like Tivo, NetPliance, and Websurfer, they want
the subscription fees
that's why. If an RJ45 ethernet connection could be hacked on and where
it gets its pictures
from changed it would make a nice internet device. You could even have
free advertiser
supported picture services. Or you could store your pictures on your
own site or on your
local lan. This might be a nice hack project.
Anyone know what's inside?

Notice that the ceiva.com unit is actually just a regular flat-panel web browser. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and you'll see that they're offering "channels" of content -- news, weather, etc. I guess just offering pictures only hasn't been too profitable. This puppy DOES look like a fun hack, though.
