Cool but expensive!

I saw this device setting next to the "new" i-Opener at Circuit City today.
I like it and it looks real cool... but I would never pay $599.00 for it.

The screen is small and crappy. It looks like it has I-Opener envy.

The "new" I-Opener @ $299 is still a better deal.

Actually the screen is the same size 10.1" dual scan LCD as the i-Opener With the same resolution (800 x 600).

As for the i-Paq I would never pay $599.00 or even $299.00 for one...Especially after being spoiled and buying a total of "8" i-openers for $99.00 ea.

I gotta say though the i-Paq machine is kool looking in person....The Windows CE suxs.
Has 4 usb and a flash memory slot, To bad it didn't have a pcmcia slot.

Thank you for the info I WAS real curious about the innards but now no longer interested in the device. Very disappointed that there is no ide port. Back to the i-Openers.......

I just purchased the Compaq iPaq IA-1 device for $99.00, and I was wondering how "Hackable" or "Upgradable" this device would be..

Can I run another ISP on it (Don't want MSN) ?

Can I use a USB Ethernet adaptor on it ?

I read that someone installed windows 98SE on it. Is that really possible ?

I really need it to access the internet through my existing LAN setup, which just requires the browser to be setup for LAN access. Is this possible ?

Thank anyone for your help..

According to the TigerDirect site, you can.

Can I use a USB Ethernet adaptor on it ?

Again, supposedly you can, but they didn't list which adapters were compatible.

I don't really know, but it might be. It all depends on how and when the CF slot is accessed.

Should be. I've had no problem setting up other CE devices to run on my network.

Better yet, try this forum...

http://www.linux-hacker.net/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.pl?Action=ShowBoard&Board=MSNCompanion

All the answers are there, including the USB NICs you'll need, and the MSN update to use USB.
