| I haven't hacked a I-Opener 2001 because of the price (WTG Netpliance, now if only you don't scare your TARGET audience away with THAT price!). I DID get up close and personal with an I-Opener 2001 at Circuit City, which was an actual "out-of-box" I-Opener being used for a demo. I removed the memory door to look at the BIOS and there was no "goop" on it. In a nutshell, it looks like a v5 (and is probably just as hackable) with the new "I-Opener 2001" QNX + Netpliance crap distro. The installed software has changed and it now features an interactive demo mode and... Surprise, surprise - says "I-Opener 2001" on the title screen.
As for the IDE pins, who knows... Clipping pins makes a big mess (little metal shards everywhere) and makes "recycling" returned I-Openers impossible, so I doubt Netpliance is going to try that again. | |
