confused on flashing bios
When do I need to flash my BIOS?

I was able to pick up an i-opener from e-bay. I have read through a lot of the forums, and have just been getting more confused about everything. I have also read through every web page I could find on the topic.
I have opened the i-opener up, and have identified several parts. It has the 200 MHz Winchip, Yamaha sound, no cut IDE pins, and no epoxy. I think this would mean it is a V1 iopener. Also, the date of manufacture is 3/15.
The main problem I'm having is trying to get into any of the non-i-opener parts of the software (i.e. root prompt). I bought it used from ebay, and it was used for "the correct purpose", that is it was connected to the i-opener service, and the bios was probably updated several times. The tutorial has also been completed. I was able to get into the QNX login prompt a few times, and I tried to login as root, just pressing enter for the password, but it didn't login. What's the password for getting into this? If I could get into the root prompt, I could easily use QNXflash or something, and get it working the way I want. What can I do for this? Would I have to replace the BIOS chip with one from Badflash?

Thanks in advance

let me take a stab at this...
first, use a Normal ps/2 keyboard
get into the bios, ie: ctrl-alt-esc
if you can get to there... yer in um...
get the proper cable,
get a 2.5" HD
load the proper tools for flashing...
If you get this far, just report back, an someone will explain the flashing... really quite simple, just take your time...
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE YOUR BIOS CHIP.... there is NO need, you have one of the easiest machines to work on....
I recommend reading the "tips for beginners", start with #7 .. ckbone has done an OUTSTANDING job of indexing 1 thru 7....
there is Tons of info not just in the above... but, its a good way to start, then, use the search... you will get buried in info, but, you will learn, then, just ask...
hope most of what I wrote here was correct, I did it from my poor memory, :)
