I want everyone to know the status of our shipping:

Our last shipment of cables we received from Taiwan were incorrect, and were returned. We are unfortunately out of
stock due to this problem. We are approximately two weeks from our completion of I-Mod 3 kits
http://www.linux-hacker.net/imod/imod3.html
and since the delay is quite severe, we would ask anyone who prefers a refund and has paid via Paypal to send a money
request to paypal.com (to the address: kits@linux-hacker.net). If you would like to wait for I-Mod 3, simply keep your order, and we will ship them in place of I-Mod1 and 2.
We are terribly sorry for such an enormous delay, and we hope to be able to get these new kits up and running rather quickly. We feel I-Mod 3 will offer the easiest and cleanest way to modify your I-opener. Again, we can't apologize enough, and anyone that would prefer to speak directly with us can call (702) 655-3632.

we also hope to have our ThinkNic Mod kit in a few weeks..

we should have a complete web site update in the next few days adding info on
compaq msn comp, aoltv, epods, and a few others i have 8)
and will also get the webpal linux code up.

Ken

When I met with Codeman at Comdex he was kind enough to let me have one of the early prototypes of the I-MOD3 boards to test out. I have just installed it and after putting a piece of paper between the board and the bottom of the HDA it came right up. The power lines that go from the external 4 pin power connector run right under the HDA as they make their way to the HDA connector. It was easy to fix the short by just putting an insulator between the board and HDA. The HDA LED is a nice touch. It lines up with the light pipe if you remove the led from the motherboard so you can see it from the front. It has a connector for the CPU fan so you do not need to use the second serial port header which makes it easier to connect the hardware for a second serial port. There are also connectors for external power and standard IDE cable so you can format/setup the HDA in your desktop PC using this same board. This mean you only need to plug the HDA in once to this single board whether it is connected to your PC or installed in the iopener. So there is less chance of damage to the HDA from handling it.

I was not able to reinstall the RF Shield due to interference with the edge of the board that has the HDA LED on it. The RF Shield slopes inwards on the top edge. Perhaps the edge of the board can be cut back some to give more clearance and the HDA LED angled out to match with the light pipe. Codeman told me the holes for the 4 pin power connector were also too small on this prototype board so on mine the power connector did not sit flush with the board and so also hit the RF shield. But this is why you build prototypes to see where the problems are and fix them.

This board makes for a very clean install of the HDA and should help with cooling since there is no cable to block the air flow.

Thanks codeman

for those still waiting, I did receive my i-opener IDE cable today, it was shipped on the 13th. Even though it was a month and a half, I'm glad I wasn't forgotten about and the cable got shipped.

Anyone know what's up with Codeman's I-mod kits? Are these things vaporware, or what? He can't seem to answer any of my multiple email inquires, even to simply say they are not available. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks all.

C'mon Codeman. You lanuch this board, you take peoples money, and then you aren't responsive.

Why can't you do the right thing and post a status every week on this board.

Have some customer service or admit that you can't perform and stop selling something you can't deliver.

Nobody should be left in the dark like this.

DO THE RIGHT THING!

Whew, I feel better

http://www.linux-hacker.net/imod/imod3.html looks nicer but those power line from the external connector should be covered or move them to bottom side as for the 40 pin connector you're out of luck for 12v supply :)

I really like this I-mod 3 kit, how much is it going to cost?

As for the 12V, I simple hack of this kit could be done to take 19v from pow sup connector, and run it through a 12V regulator with a cap. Thats what I plan on doing with mine. That way I can have a small internal hard-drive with os and other stuff, and possibly, an external large hard-drive to hold all my mp3s, etc.

Hmmmm, Nice thought....
Do you have any idea what the initial startup current draw will be on your new external large harddrive? If you have not done so already, Do you plan on upgrading the Winchip Cpu?
Will your Netpliance supplied wallwart power supply support these added features?

As far as I know, nobody ever reported being able to get two ide hard drives working on an I-Opener.....the sandisk may be interfering. Correct me if I'm wrong......

I think it is possible to do two IDE drives properly jumpered. I haven't tried it myself, so have no first hand information, but I have had lots of people buy cables and say they have done it. I guess I'll have to give it a shot and see when I get a chance.
