| Before upgrading to a pentium 200, I only used the RISE chip in my v4 for a few days. It seemed to run slightly hotter than my v2, winchip2, lasagna fan, set up like yours. On the v2, I see a max temp of 38/39c, running mp3s. A few things to do: Get a cpu cooling program....I've used CPU Idle and CPUCool. Both work great, both lower temps 3 to 4c. Other programs should do the same. Make sure your lasagna fan is sitting flat on the chip. If there is not perfectly flat contact between the fan/heatsink and the cpu, heat transfer will suffer. I scraped off the little pad, and use thermal transfer compound (Radio Shack). Badflash apparently doesn't like the stuff, but I've used it for years on heatsinks without any trouble. A small coating on the contact area will eliminate any air gaps, which impede thermal transfer. Last, as a final resort, you could cut the case (plastic) area over the fan. That plastic area is limiting air-flow, and making the Lasagna noisier than it needs to be. It's your I-Opener....who cares if there is a small square hole over the fan? My V4 with a Pentium 200, has the hole cut out completely to accomodate a larger fan and heatsink, running on an external power supply. Many people on this board don't seem to care very much about temperatures, and cooling.....some routinely report temps over 55c. I will guarantee a longer life for your computer, if you can make it run cooler. Heat kills electronic devices, the I-Opener is no exception. One more thing....I have a small 3" desk fan sitting behind my v4, it blows all the time whie the I-Opener is running (better safe than sorry). | |
