ok I bought a webtv just to see what was inside as I couldn't find any real details on the web. I got the Sony int-w150 detailed at:

As was said before, the OS is possibly CE. I'm gonna see if I can get an image of the ROM chip to see for myself and if I can stick a new image on it I'll do that too.
