I got a IBM Thinkpad 380 8x CD-ROM to work, it has 48 pin connectors but the first 4 are for ?? The drive is a TEAC CD-38 this Teac has full documentation on.
It also has 4 pins to the side for audio output.
I got it off eBay for 23.00 and it was new, not used, in a Options by IBM box.

it's very small and thin, I would dare to say it couldn't be any smaller.
I have a couple other IBM drives coming in next week, one is a new 24x drive and the some others that are 12 & 24's. I post my results from them when I get them checked out.
Anyone have any good ideas on installing the CD drive inside the IO ?? My only thought would be to fab a spacer that goes around the front and back halfs to creat a little more space inside or a mod of the base, I did see one good one that involved adding a notebook docking station to the IO base, it looked too expensive considering you have to find a docking base cheap, then gut it out. Non the less it looked good.
