alright guys, i just got what appears to be a V5 Iopener.. it was an open box special, and i didnt have to sign anything about service agreements. (i got it from circuit city) At circuit city it was the display unit, and i haven't connected it to my land or cell line.. so it hasn't been allowed to connect.. I have taken it apart (#### these damn rivets by the way) and it appears to be a V5. It does not have that yamaha chip in there.. its a Rise 266.. etc.. what i need to know is.. this. What do i have to do to upgrade this machine, to run Win 95 or 98. This unit will be going into my car, as a digital audio source, for my headunit. I hope to connect a small 1 gig laptop drive (2.5 inch) for the primary drive for the OS.. and also have a secondary device which is a Removable harddrive. I can build the housings etc.. etc..

Where do i start the modification process?

Bios.. where do i get it.. can i just flash my own? perhaps hotflash it?
cables?
Keyboards?
etc
etc

thanks.. all your help would be appreciated

Are you referring to the special torx screws used to hold the stand to the back of the iopener? They have a small pin in the middle to make it harder to remove without a torx "tamper proof" #8 driver. Although a small bladed screw driver should also work if jammed in. You don't need to remove any of the real rivets in the RF shield to open an iopener.

Redwood.....Thanks for the compliment. To all beginners in the I-Opener hacking.....There is a long series of tips that you might find helpful. To find them use the search feature at the top of the page....search for "I-Opener Tips For New Owners". This is one of the reasons I stopped the "Tips" series. I found the same questions being asked over and over....even though practically every question was answered by me or others in the "Tips" series. It got to be frustrating....It was like no-one was reading anything, no-one was using the search feature. I could continue the series, if I thought anybody was reading the "Tips".....I got to feeling I was banging my head on a wall.

I read the "tips", and still do. I would love to see them continued.
