modem problem

I have this problem with my modem on my v5 Io it will connect and make the usual dialing and connection noises but then after i've connected and have been on about a minute i start getting this loud really really high pitched tone that keeps getting higher pitched, the sound is coming from the speakers, after this happens my modem no longer works and the computer cant detect a modem on the mainboard unless i unplug the power from my Io and restart, i tried an expieriment by actually pulling the modem off the board when it started doing this ( just to make sure it was the modem) and as soon as the modem came off the board the sound stopped, i think that the modem i have is bad but what i was wondering is if an IRQ conflict could cause this, there are no conflicts shown in the device manager, the reason i was wondering is because i was hoping that could be it so i wouldnt have to try and buy another one, as far as that goes does anyone know where i could buy one of these, or does anyone have one from an old messed up Io that they would be willing to sell?

Thanks alot for your help!
Mike

It sounds like a hardware problem with the modem.....never heard of a IRQ or any other software problem causing those symptoms....There are enough fried boards around that maybe somebody will have a good modem.....There's always a USB modem.
