If you are going to add a 2.5" drive the power (5v) will come through the 44 pin IDE cable so you don't need this. If you are going to add a 3.5" drive you need both 5 and 12 volts.

I have a GPS unit and it gets its power from the keyboard with a special cable. The KB power line is fused and the most you can draw is 0.75 amps of 5 volts.
