I use linux on my main machine, and plan to use 98 on the i opener on order to use it with dialpad to call my mother (waiting for a bios chip and a cable from badflash).

I have heard 2000 is the best Windows as far as AMD-based i-opener, and that 98 with usb support works well with the basic "modded" i-opener (video drivers must be downloaded). 98 SE (which is what I will install) is reported to crash often due to memory leaks with the ####k 32 meg sodimm, but again, I haven't tested any of these.
