I bought this iopener through HSN back in early january and i have nothing but problems, sure i got it running win98 but i have all these IRQ problems and and the sound is all choppy (which i think may have something to do with the irq problems) also i think this one came with a bad modem because i would conect to the internet and after a while the modem would go all crazy making high pitch tones and then it would quit working completly and after it did that the device manager would not even show a modem connected to the board anymore! anyway i think im gonna consider it a loss and load some acidwarp type programs on the sandisk, put a frame on it and stick it on the wall!

i just wish i had known all of this stuff about this version before i spent the money!

sorry just wanted to vent a little!
Mike

Hi,
Look, they ain't perfect. Have you tried upgrading processors and memory? You have a V5 I-Opener and they are just a ton of fun to play with... if you don't want to keep it... sell it

I have no solution for you, except encouragement. The iO has proven to be a stable machine, assuming that you don't have some hardware problem out of the box...which is, of course possible. I've moded several here to run windoze (no CPU mods), and have had NO problems. Many have had problems with what has later proven to be a setup issue. Do the obvious, reformat, reinstall, etc. etc. As a last resort, if you think you have a lemon, buy another one from HSN and return the one you have.

I had problems with 98 and 98 se too. I put ME in it and it worked perfectly. Just installed the right vid driver, via 4-in-1 and disabled the restore feature. Have it in my truck with 6.5 gigs of MP3 lovin storage :)

Did you try disabling the secondary IDE controller to clear up the IRQ conflict? I was getting choppy sound and conflicts till I did that, and now it works like a charm. To do this, go to your Device Manager, find your hard drive controller, and go to properties. Click the settings tab and set it to "Only Primary IDE Channel Enabled" then reboot.

Hope this helps.

Hey dude...live and learn. If hacking the IOisn't for you, move on to the next project. The money lost is nothing compared to the lesson learned. Life is a journey, learn as you go along.....peace!
