Can you provide more details as requested here? Your post says they are refurbed. Do they run the gamut from V1 to V5s? If they have no goop on the BIOS' (or IDE header pins clipped) and DOAs are covered, I'm in for 2 to 3 of them.

You can put me down for 2, if I can be sure I can get IMOD3 kits for them in a timely fashion. What kind of warranty will they carry? Kind of a moot point once I crack them open, but just concerned about DOAs....

A response to sseay:

Sure, codeman isn't the most verbal on the board. Yes, he's quiet at times.

But he delivers.

Period. He comes through. His stuff works. He makes sure
that the product that he sends out is correct. End of discussion.

If I wanted another I-O (four is enough, thank you) he'd have
my C-note now. And I'd know he'd send one when they were ready.

(And if you get worried, he'll happily talk on the phone. He
has nothing to hide, and no reason to do so.)

If these reconditioned IO's are in good shape(they boot)I'd take at least two myself. If they're "unique fixer-uppers", don't boot and are proto-hacker failures/returns I'd pass, even at $99. That's a bit steep for a parts machine.

Codeman: Thanks for the work, but an update on your progress would be good. What are the odds of this deal working out?

Thanks

Just a reply to the message below:

Sure, codeman isn't the most verbal on the board. Yes, he's quiet at times.

But he delivers.

Period. He comes through. His stuff works. He makes sure

If you aren't a good communicator and you have your own business, you will fail.

Good regular communication is all that needs to occur to insure your "customers" are kept in the loop.
Codeman has a history of going for weeks holding peoples money and not replying to their posts. His intentions are probably good. His execution is suspect. Not everyone has or knows where to find his phone number. A good business should push infomormation, not make customers pull it out of them. Lots of dot.coms "came through" and "their stuff worked" and they lost millions of dollars by not communicating the status of orders to customers.

Bottom line is this: If you can't communicate effectively, you don't belong in business.

the units will be replaced if DOA but that should not happen
because all the units will have the sandisk wiped before being
shipped (have to remove any customer info email ect.)

but like i said only DOA replacements..

and the qty of refurb/useds units could be upto 20k
we were told they built 200k iopeners

Just PLAYING around with estimates....

Interesting....

There is 1693 Registered Members, And a possibility of up to 20,000 refurbed i-Openers....

Okay you guys you may need to buy up to 11.8 i-Openers each....

Of course if they are purchased by codeman @ about Est. lets say $12 each wholesale @ unit qty of 10,000 = $120,000 + storage.
$120,000 dollars + storage cost...for 10,000
Sell for $99 x 1693= $167,000 that is IF everyone buys just 1, Some won't buy any... a few will buy 2 maybe 3 so the estimated sales figure of 1500-2500 units from this BBS should be a rather close estimate using membership# info.
Of course there's unknown other possible buyers lurking out there...

Again, just playing around with estimates...There is a lot of variables here so it COULD be more profitable than expected...or it could be

Any other input...?

PS... someone (& Stockholders) @ netpliance sure lost a lot of money....200k i-openers made @ a est cost of $400 ea.

Sees to me most of us are in for a few units give or take..but if there were a price break at say 5 units and again at 10 units I think many of us would opt for a much larger quantity than we would normally consider especially if the price break were substantial.

Timing may be important as Audrey and dozens of other IA's are vieing for my money. Yes it's a super socket 7 but without hacksRus it's just a lame 266MHz no HD no ETHERNET no PCMCIA etc.

If you're looking for dumb terminals, you might want to try webplayers. They have a larger chip disk (48 meg), wireless keyboard, mic/headphone jacks and (it looks like) the same screen. The cpu is *not* upgradeable like an io, but depending on what you want that could be acceptable.

Thanks to ebay, one of the sellers is coming through with the iopener. Can't wait to put jailbait on it and try to upgrade the system. I'm busy downloading new kernel, busybox, and tinylogin now. Does anyone know if jbaits is still working on the project. So far it is the best distribution I have found to fit on the DOC.

As for the webplayer, I never did see a good source for them. Right now on ebay you can get the IOpeners.

Thanks for the help and yes I did leave a rather nasty feedback, too bad for the 80 character limit.
