IBM's OS/2 Warp?
Has anyone ever installed OS/2 on an i-o? Or tried and failed?

Believe it or not, I have a real-world temporary business need for an OS/2 box. (Don't ask.) It occurs to me that the easiest path would be to prep an alternate HD for my IO.

My plan is to install v3 Warp. Anyone know of a technical reason not to try?
Searched this BBS and found nothing.
If anyone can offer tips -- or wave me away from a waste of time trying -- I'd be grateful.

If I do take on the project, full results will be reported here.

There may not be driver support for some of the newer hardware on the IO - sound, USB, etc.

If you want the Warp look-and-feel, you can try Workplace Shell for Windows (WPSH), which will replace progman.exe on Win 3.1 or WfW 3.11 and give a shell with the look and feel of Warp. WPSH is a free download from IBM. Same problem about drivers, though.

I'll be happy with a readable text-mode window. No need for quality video, networking, audio, USB ... I just have a simple OS/2 app I'm trying to port.

Doable?

Yeah, it's doable. I've had OS/2 running on lesser hardware than this, at the very least you may have to run standard VGA mode for the GUI, but for text mode apps, no problem.

By the way, I've done it. Had a dual boot setup on a laptop drive, and I've booted into Warp to see some old stuff before reformatting it. (Insert sigh for an OS that should've kicked but if not for IBM's marketing....)
