Hello everyone, I have recently extended my LCD cable on my Iopener so that I can hide the internal guts inside my dash. I was wondering if there was a demand for extended LCD cables. I am not sure what the cost will be, but the company that I work for can do the fabrication, and we found a place to get the connectors from. Post a mesage to this thread if you are interested.
No, not yet. What I did do though, is I added a 4x40 LCD display in place of my car stereo unit. I have not connected it yet, but I am building the cable for it right now. I extended the LCD cable probably 2-3 feet. It still works fine. It is a little bit brighter, but I fixed that by tweeking around with it.
Oh, I understand now. You are using the guts to drive a smaller LCD?
The footprint and low cost of the I-o does seem to make for a good in dash system.
What type of vehicle do you have this in?
I have a 93 Mazda Miata with some serious engine upgrades. I am using the large screen to do all the visual stuff that winamp does. The main reason that I want to have a small numerical display is as a decoy. It will work though, when I finish my cables...
Wow. I've been looking for this exact same thing. I bought an Iopener LCD cable from some guy who blew up his Iopener (I'll protect the names of the innocent), and I was very close to buying a 50-Pin Centronics or SCSI cable this morning and making an extended cable.
But I put off buying it until I have more time. But now this comes along. I'm very interested. Just let us know the cost.
Well, I have the Iopener mounted in dash now with the stock LCD. I was planning on ordering a comparable sized one, but running it off anouther computer in-trunk. Your idea would be mush mush better. I would love to see any info on the LCD extension. Is the LCD DTSN also?
yes!! we are interested in the lcd connector that attaches to the motherboard!! That would be great if you knew the part number, some type of identification number for that part, or even if you have the part and can sell it. Let me know what you can get, i think programmer, and starfish are interested also.
AsidX never got back to us about the extended cable or the connecters, somebody needs to ring his neck for offering stuff like that and never getting back to us about it. He could have at least given us some info on where we can buy the connecters.
