Hi Guys,

Well, I have decided to punt - yup - I am getting rid of this neat toy that never worked.

The questions I have are where can I sell this and what should I sell this for?

Here's what I have (and what I paid) - but want to know what I should sell it for.

What I have (and paid):

o I-opener IA17 ($165 - yes - I know I paid to much - actually took it as collateral and ended up owning it)
-- Missing Outer metal shield - plastic back cover is fine - but missing screws
o Toshiba 20 GB Hard Drive - 9mm high ($165 - works fine in laptop)
-- pre-installed with Dos (active), Win 98 SE, CyberBlade Drivers, USB ethernet drivers, and some other s/w
o 128 MB SODIMM - Sync, 100MHz, Cl2 ($125 - works fine in laptop)
-- Origional SODIMM is lost
o I-MOD 1 Kit -- Heat Sync, Y-Adapter, IDE Cable, four srews [2 long, 2 short] ($25 - installed in i-opener)
o BadFlash BIOS + origional BIOS ($15)
-- Yup - two chips

I am returning the USB Ethernet Card ($60 - office Max) so that won't be included in this - unless you guys think this is a plus in selling.

Questions:
What should I sell this non-working unit for? I paid ($470 or $530 w/usb) - but will get much less (as expected).
Where should I sell it?

Thanks for all of your help in my previous post (Search the General Posts for: "Help: Just got an I-opener - two questions" ).

He has all the details in the " Help: Just got an I-opener - two questions" thread he started about making it work, but basically:

He had the bios chip 180 degrees around (and possibly upside down, I'm not clear on that).
The RAM had some filings on it.
He was pushing the bios all the way down.

He fixed those 3 things, and it worked. I guess we joyously welcome another member to the community, and of course, mourn the loss of cheap hardware (j/k). Dude, congratulations on getting started.

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the long wait - I just setup my I-opener at work (it's my portable - for now) - until I get tired of it.

Basically, the chip was 180 degrees off - right side up. When I took off the origional BIOS - I REALLY took it off - doh!

Also, I had pushied it in all the way - this won't let it boot up - or even come up - I had to add yellow sticky note paper to the bottom before I plugged the chip in.

Finally, when I sanded the fillings down a bit, I got some metal flakes on the SODIMM - yikes - but it was OK.

Thanks for all of your guys help! This really helped out.

I guess I may graduate from newbie to old-newbie ;.)

Thanks,

Yikes! Sanded the sodimm and got filings in the socket???

Dude, I'm not sure how you did that but your are one lucky dude, Very lucky...

Suggestion for future, I've cleaned many "discarded" so called bad ram modules just by cleaning the ram edge contacts with a clean white cloth or plain paper towel and 99%proof denatured alcohol.
Ground yourself for ESD protection and thoroughly wipe edge of ram contact until no more dark oxidation is evident on the wipe. Let dry. Blow off any lint with air duster.
The don't touch the contacts with your fingers. Skin oils are corrosive, especially with dissimilar metals and electric current present.

Normally just cleaning the contact on the ram module itself is enough.

Mark your experience on the learning curve as lucky this time...Enjoy your i-Opener!
