OK which is faster an iO or a WebPlayer. In stock configuration? What is the CUP in the iO comprable to? and Lastly what is the fastest chip one can put in the iO? I have see requests for AMD k-3 cpus will they actuall work and at what clock rate?

I'm trying to decide which machine to go after, since i have several uses for these machines. Thanks!

OK I just saw the FAQ (oops)and got most of my Q's answered. BUT I still don't know what the biggest CPU one can put in this bad boy... Also I 'd like to get some opinions on the two machines LCD displays. I saw some in another thread but only a couple of people posted responses. Tansk again!

The I-opener stock cpu runs at 200 mhz. It can be upgraded with varying difficulty to ~ 400 to 500 mhz. Upgrading to an amd k6II+ and parts is about $60. Don' know much about the webplayer.

The Virgin Webplayer I had was returned last summer; in fact I had two, thinking there was something wrong with the screen on the first one they sent me. Number 2 wasn't any better, so I sent it back too. The screen in my opinion just doesn't measure up to the i-opener, which I have (hacked version). Although I must say the wireless keyboard is very nice and it's much more portable than the IO. Are these things still floating around;are they hackable?

i have my (hacked) i-opener and my (hacked) webplayer both sitting right here in front of me. both are running win98 off of a hard drive, but otherwise stock as far as RAM, CPU, etc. the i-opener screen is by far superior to the webplayer. the i-opener's backlight makes the top and bottom edges of the screen a little light, but it isnt too bad. the webplayer requires you to look DIRECTLY straight on at it, and even then it looks pretty crappy. i agree with the guy above, at first i thought the screen was just messed up, but unfortunately, that is just how it is. i mean, it is bareable and for free, it is a good little machine, but the LCD leaves something to be desired. as far as performance, i dont run too many apps, so it is hard to say. i just use them for surfing the web and playing mp3's over the network. both seem comparable in doing either of those tasks.

dont know if any of this was useful to you, but just my 2 cents worth...
