Mount a hard drive while keeping the heatsink and modem.

Hey everyone,
I think this is origional, I've never seen it discussed atleast. I figured out a way to mount a laptop hd without having to remove the heatsink or modem. Here it goes:

1. Cut a aluminum strip about 2 cm wide and say 15cm long (just guessing the legth of your hd + 5cm.)
2. Flip your hd upside down and screw the right side of the hd onto the aluminum strip leaving the extra sticking out over the edge towards the ide interface.
2. drill two holes in the aluminum strip that will go in between the groves of the heatsink.
3. Take two woodscrews or the screws you find fans stuck to heat sinks with and mount the hd to the heat sink on the left side upside down. You need to cut a hole in the rf shield because the HD will stick out on one side.
4. That's pretty much the gist of it, it's kinda hard to describe I'll post some digital pictures somewhere if I get a chance.

No idea if it makes sense to anyone else, if you want anymore info just ask.

Yes that will definitely work. That is how I have had my HD mounted for about a year, using the original IMod kit (piece of aluminum with a couple predrilled holes, mouse/kb splitter, etc). You will need to cut off that side of the RF shielding, and one of the shielding mounting holes. I also cut a small hunk off the heatsink to get at the IDE header easily, but you can get by without that hassle. Heatsink and modem still in place.

Sorry to burst your bubble, Cide, but that's the ORIGINAL way everyone mounted the HD. Way back when this first started.
