Undercounter mounting
fastening an I-opener to the underside of a kitchen cabinet

Has anybody modified the brackets on an i-opener so that it can be mounted upside down under an upper kitchen cabinet. This would allow it to swing out of the way when not being used, saving counter space. The only thing on the counter would be a keyboard, which could be wireless. I haven't seen any thing about this in any of the threads. The i-opener can almost do this, but swings the wrong way - it seems almost like it would work it I reversed the rear mounting base. Not wanting to re-invent the umbrella, I thought I would throw the question to the group.

Hmmm...Here's what I've seen in a few hardware super-centers, in the kitchen cabinet dept.....A swing out bracket/shelf assy meant to hold a large cook-book. when swung out from under a hanging cabinet it holds the book at a comfortable viewing angle. I think it would hold a permanently attached I-Opener....allowing it to swing back under the cabinet when not in use. It looked plenty sturdy, from what I remember...

I remember a thread where someone had a link to a swivel arm that was decently price (around 40). This arm had 3 joints and was designed for marine use, but was perfect for the iopener. Each joint had could be tightened a thumb screw I believe. I have looked for that thread before but could never find it again. Maybe it was a different board.

Not sure about the thread, but I bookmarked the link

Try to find someone with a extra base mount from a GCT, The base matchs up to the iopener (same company made both) and Gateway includes the hardware (bolts and bushings) to mount it under tha cabinet. The same Tawain company made both compters.

Thanks fuys. The marine mounting looks a little to cludgy. The GCT mounting sounds interesting, but, pardon my ignorance, who or what is GCT and do they have a web site?

Thanks for the info. I did do a search first, but nothing interesting came up. The GCT reference looks promising. I will post a question on that thread. As far as having brought this up a while ago, I have had a precurser to alsheimers all my life - CRS (can't remember s--t). So don't ask me what I had for lunch yesterday.

Thanks DMasier, I needed that link. Might even get a couple of them. One for under the kitchen counter, one next to my bed. So I can surf in the middle of the night.

And thanks, SF, I will definitely be cruising to York to check out the 'Ollies'. I can't even remember asking about them, and I am surprised you remembered. This has definitely been a very productive thread for myself.
