K6-2+ and K6-3+ YOU MUST READ
Just wanted to say

First of all I have to say that I knew absolutely NOTHING about hacking until I found this place. I got my i-opener around the version 3 era, and I was able to get Win98SE running on it after quite a few long nights spent searching this board. I want to thank all of the people that ironed out all of the little quirks and posted all of the information necessary for me to learn how to do this. I have spent the last few days searching the net for K6+ chips, good God, do you think I could find any other than on eBay. NO WAY!! Until today...I STRUCK GOLD!!!!!! So to thank everyone for all of the informative posts, I shall give up the link for those of you looking for chips to fry:)

Well, sort of. These are readily available from lot of suppliers for $110+ price range. The performance difference between the K6-III+ and the K62+ or K62P is minimal and does not justify a price difference that is nearly tripple.

What the heck... I paid $45 a piece for my K6-III+'s, now they're going in quantity 3 for $99 a piece... this seems ludicrous... has AMD really abandoned the Socket 7 market??? I thought there was a rumored next generation due out in the not too distant future, did plans get changed?

Hmmm. I guess I should raise my prices. I have K62P-450's for about half that price. The only difference between the K62P and the K62+ is PowerNow! The K62P is the same laptop processor and runs at 2.1V, so 2.0 or 2.2V is fine. It also boots directly to 450Mhz with theproper DIP switch settings. Both have 128K of cache.

Hi,
Well Tiger Direct is selling an AMD K62 Plus 450Mhz CPU Only (L2 - 128K Cache) which supports powernow for $34.99...

Apparently, no one looked at the link, k6III+ 550's, clock them up to, o what, say 750, guess that just doesn't interest anyone. Also at the time, I could not find one reference to k6+ chips at Tiger direct. I was just trying to be a little helpful.

Anyway, in the end, I still learned a lot from all of you, thanks.

Hi,
Why would someone pay $139 or whatever for a K6-III+ 550Mhz? It seems just absurdly high to me. I did look at the link, just it has no interest... most are happy to just plug in a K6-III+ (or K6-III, or K6-2+, even a K6-2). All for under $50-60 preferably under $40.

further, you can bump a 450 up to 600 if your system has the electrical power needed to do so. going beyond 600 requires pushing the FSB further than it belongs, and you can do that with a 450 as well (if you have the power) 600 is the fastest anyone should reasonably expect their IO to go. 678(6x 113) is as fast as the IO is ever likely to go. This is based on overclocking the FSB (and PCI) by the same amount that a 75Mhz system does. (83Mhz systems underclock PCI)
