OT ... LCD screen sizes??

Hi,
Ok... my I-Openers were my first LCD screen devices, and it's time to trade up at least one maybe two monitors to LCD... I have a few questions for the group... these concern first notebook computers... (yes I'm going to buy a real notebook not a batteryopener, I want DVD play)... I'm asking OT here as I value the input of most of the regulars greatly and expect some of them have some experience which may be helpful...

1) Ok so I understand I-Openers LCD's kinda suck... I like to play Diablo II, how much will I notice a differance between say a 17" 5 year old MAG monitor and say a 14.1-15" LCD on a Sony or IBM notebook?

2) Is it really worth paying an extra few hundred bucks for say a 15.7" Gateway Solo? vs say a 15" display? For DVD playback and gaming (mostly Diablo II as mentioned above). I keep thinking 14.1 is ok, 15 would be nice, but I have no referance for how much nicer (if at all) Gateways 15.7" LCD would be... anyone with experience please help!

3) For pure desktop use, any suggestions on the best (fastest vs largest vs cost effective in that order) lcd screen in the 18-20" range? I don't really want the slowness of the I-Opener LCD screen... any help/suggsestions would be appreciated.

Finally, ok I'm stupid, but I only see new Gateway's at Gateway, and the best discount coupon I can find online says $100 off... is that about it? Suggestions on how to get a competitive price out of these folks would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

none of the TFTs out there experience the crappiness of the IO display.. :)

look for one with high brightness, and remember that the 15" on an LCD is 15" viewable, unlike the CRT where the 15" is 15" tube
