USB Networking solution
USB Connector & Hub in one device

I was looking for a compatable USB to Ethernet solution for my Iopener. I was worried that once I had a had the ethernet port occupied I was without further options (yea I know there is a hack for this, but I really don't want to do all that soldering with the probability of messing up my board).

Looking through the main sites (Dlink, Netgear, USB, Syslink, ...) I found that Dlink has an ethernet hub that also has an ehternet jack built in. (DSB-H3ETX USB Hub + 10/100 Ethernet). It looks small enough to attach to the back or attach to the base.

Has anyone else used this?

I'm using the Dlink 650TX and it works great. I'm not to inclined to do the USB hack, there seems to be conflicting arguments as to wether it actually works. I'm guessing that most of the Dlink stuff would use the same USB drivers.

The usb hack does work...but with a usb hub you are looking at a lot less work and risk. I have the an smc usb ethernet controller mounted inside my iopener, connected to the second usb port (with all the necessary bits in their places). It wasn't that hard, but it did take some tedious soldering to get it all working correctly.

Cheers,

The DSB-H3E works fine with the I-O, at least under OBSD. Below is part of my dmesg with a few notes.
