I-Opener onboard nic, and security screws...

Hello, let me start out by saying I am new to the whole i-opener scene, so forgive me if I ask questions that have been aswered a million times before. I have read a number of FAQ's and none have answered my questions.

At any rate, I picked up my I-opener on ebay last week, and recieved it today. Upon arrival I noticed two ineresting things. One, it was already equiped with a PS/2 "Y" cable, and 2 it had an onboard NIC. Is this NIC functional under any major OS? If so, why does everyone use USB network adapters?

Also, I began to take it apart to see what was inside, but to my dismay, the base is secured with 3 security screws. Anyone know what size or bit to ask for, or where I might find one such bit?

From what I can see there is no "goo" holding the BIOS in place, so that is a plus.

Thanks,
Gabe

There was never any version of the I-Opener with an onboard NIC, only a 56k modem.

However, there was a hack that involved the installation of the circuitry of a USB NIC within the case of the I-Opener, with a RJ-45 socket installed sideways instead of one of the phone jacks of the original I-Opener. You may have one of these hacked units.

the screw bit is a security bit Torx 8 I believe. many people had luck
taking a jewelers screwdriver an putting between two adjacent notches in the
screw and being able to unscrew them.
if you want to replace them the replacement size is 2.5mm x 8mm machine screws.
