Is anyone aware of anyone selling the IO IDE cables pre-made and is willing to accept payment by PayPal? Thanks.

will accept credit cards, I don't know about paypal.

I made my own cables. I used a vise to compress the IDE connectors onto the ribbon cable. Jaw rough surface was covered with wood tonge depressors to protect the IDE connectors from damage.
Another tonge depressor was used with double back sticky tape to hold the split flipped wire arraignment in place until connector was crimped in place.

A local cable & wire company gave me bout 36" of 2mm pitch ribbon cable. The dude said it was not worth writing up a sales ticket for such a short length. I already had the IDE connectors. (Walk in cust, Thanks Advanced cable in Bellevue!)

If you try and make you own, allow for trial and error learning curve...order extra connectors!

Badflash doesn't allow PayPal.

Also, I went to check out Fry's here in Norcal... They don't seem to sell 44pin connectors OR the 44pin flat ribbon cable. :( Any other recommendations for the norcal area? Thanks.

In NorCal, you can walk into Jameco and get the 44-pin connectors there. Unfortunately, they don't sell the ribbon cable that matches.

Actually, badflash's faq says they only accept creditcard.

Wild_Pencil: Hrm. Such a shame. I live in the San Jose/Silicon Valley, and I can't even find a shop that sells these things! =(

I got the connectors and the cable at R&D Electronics on Montague Expressway (near Capitol Ave) in San Jose. At the time the cable was not in the official inventory but I found a spool on the very top shelf in that area. Could still be that way so ask or look.

Here ya go...

Badflash is an excellent resource and it seems reasonable to send him custom, especially if you're also getting a new BIOS or other mod kit at the same time. But it's also worth mentioning that you can search in Yahoo shopping using the word "I-Opener." The cables are available from cablesonline.com and (like badflash) you will need a credit card to purchase. These cables differ from Badflash's in that they are constructed with just 2 crimp-on connectors and actually have the wire pairs twisted at one end. Which approach is better is up to you to decide.

Happy New Year

You know you can easily take apart a regular ide cable and reclamp the connector.
If you inspect the end of the connector you will see there is a simple lock-clip mechanism.
Just stick a pin in to release the clip and you can take the connector off.
The split the wire into pairs. half-twist the pairs. and put back together.
You'll need a vice. And a piece of tape to hold the pairs in place.

I wouldn't know where to obtain a 44 pin cable anyway. The only cables I have are the stock 40 pin IDE cables. Most 44-to-40 pin adapters have the ground pins tied together, so they typically won't work with converting prior to reversing...

Did you e-mail him and ASK if in your SPECIAL situation if he would accept another guaranteed form of payment such as a Postal moneyorder or a well known bank cashiers check?
