I know microsoft says the minimum requirements for running XP is 64, but right now I only have 32 installed, and I desperately want to install XP. I know it will probably run crappy on only 32mb, but I really really want XP and I am really stuborn. Is there any possible way that I can do it? I tried installing XP in another computer, and then moving the hard drive to the iopener, but that didn't work....

I don't think it will install with 32meg....it'll probably hang if you try. Besides, XP will be too slow to be useful if you could do it. Borrow a 128meg chip, do the install, put back your 32meg chip, see what happens.

I don't know about 32MB But last week I installed XP Pro on an OLDER very basic machine with 128MB pc66 as a test and it worked fine.

Celeron 500
128MB PC66
Soyo Mobo
20GB Maxtor HDD
Maxtor PCI ATA66 Controller card
Diamond Viper V770
3 Com 56k PCI Modem
Sound blaster live pci sound card
HP 12x10x32 CDRW

The install took about 40 minutes. All of this older hardware was correctly identified, If I remember correctly was not asked for any drivers during the install process. Very smooth and appeared to be just as responsive as Win98se (or better).

The answer is NO.

I just repaired an IBM thinkpad I recovered from one of my recycling excursions and tried to install XP Pro just for scientific testing and experimenting purposes.

2 minutes into setup I get 4 fast alert beeps and blue screen with the message,

This computer does not have enough
memory to run windows xp.
This version requires 64.00 megabytes (mb)
of memory (RAM).
Setup cannot continue. To quit setup press F3

The thinkpad has a P-II 266, 32mb ram (I installed for smoke testing), 14.1 TFT, CD Floppy,etc.

I have to go and pickup one Feral (Stray) Cat I'm a care giver for from a free Spay and neuter clinic in a little bit but I'll try 64 MB later on today after I get back.

I'm very curious now!
