Hard drive and Sandisk NOT DETECTED

ok, i just got a new bios from badflash and plugged it into my V5 IO. ever since the very first time i hooked up the hard drive (an ibm 2.5" of some sort), i have not been able to get the IO to detect either the hard drive or the sandisk, even when the hard drive is removed. if i set both c: and d: to auto in the bios, the drive is detected right after the ram count, but it still will not boot - it hangs on the screen that says ROM UPGRADE 06.21.2001 (i think that's the right date). also, i have not been able to get the sandisk to detect at all.... is there anyone who knows what's going on or would be willing to help me fix this? (i will pay you). i am really not interested in mounting the hard drive inside the IO, i just want jailbait or midori linux on the sandisk so it will run silently.

Do you have the proper cable? Check to see if all the wire are good by taping needles to an ohm meter and checking for continuity on all wires. Without the hard drive connected and with the new bios you should be able to boot to the original netpliance software. Try that and see what happens.

i do not have an ohm meter.... as to the cable, it is brand new from badflash.com. as to disconnecting the hard drive, it does not even detect the sandisk much less boot to it to get to the netpliance software.... i have no idea what's going on - everything looks correct. should i try removing the cable itself?

Yes, & then you might want to try different Boot orders from BIOS.
( Maybe Boot from D: ?)

Sound like your hard drive is not set to active. All boot drives must be set to active in the MBR. Either fdisk and format on a desktop or use a partition manager such as Ranish
(ranish.com) and set drive number to 128. Your scandisk could also be corrupted as well,
but only can be corrected after a hard drive is installed. Drive numbers start at 128 and go to 129,130,etc. Windows will automatically set all other drives to number other than 128.
Hope this helps
