V5 CPU Possibilities
Easiest dipswitch CPU upgrade?

First of all I want to thank all of you for pioneering these hacks. I bought a V5 at a yard sale in July for $8.00. Since then I'm up & running with an IBM 2.1 HD, 128mg of Viking memory(COMPUSA closeout for toshiba laptop $29.00)& the other basics(new bios, lasagna fan etc). I'm working on the USB & Audio now but I want to bump up my processing power.

I've looked through just about everything & I'm confused. Is there a CPU upgrade I can do without soldering if I have the block of dipswitches(which I do). I currently have the Rise266 CPU. All the upgrades I've found are more for the older models. If so, I could use some suggestions.

Once again, I really want to thank you all.

Try this thread for a summary/starting point. If you have an AMD K6 family chip, you should be able to drop it in by setting the dips, but you may not optimize it's performance. It will be better that the RISE. I think others on th eboard can weight in with first hand info. My units were v1 and v3.
