The touchscreen taht I have that I want to put into my i-o has a normal 10 pin com port plug, like the one that you use to plug a standard 9 pin com port onto your motherboard, my question is, if I removed the modem, can I just plug this right onto where the modem was plugged in?

you'll need a serial converter to convert ttl signals to rs232 signals see the other posting about that and notice that io had 2 com ports one under modem and one above the ram by the cpu
and they do require 2mm spaced plug to fit

BadFlash.com has the dual serial board by r_fl_z which will hook you up. A very nice board.
