Where have I been!!?
I didn't know this was still alive.

I bought my i-Opener about two years ago, started the hack and before I finished, it looked like the system died. I never got the BIOS out, close but not quite. I pretty much gave up on it.

I was just about to throw it out, but decided to power it up once more to make sure. Sure enough, it came up, but didn't see the hard drive.

I thought all this I-Opener hack had died off long ago. I guess I'll have to get back into it.

So far, it powers up, need to replace the the CPU fan (went on to bigger, better things) and locate the BIOS for it. I think the HD cable I made will work, and I think I can make a bracket.

Any suggestions for catching up on the last two years?? (besides read all the posts here). I'm really glad it's still alive, I think it's a nice machine that will do quite a bit of what I want.

It's been a while since I gave up on this hack. And pretty much forgot where I was when I stopped. So this is what I think I still need to do to get it to work, if this is correct, I can search for the details.

Replace the ROM to allow it to boot to laptop HD.

I've got the HD, with OS on it (win95 currently, after it works, I'll put Win2K or QNX)

I made a HD cable, I think it works, can't test it yet.

Replace the CPU

Change the voltage for the CPU

Locate another fan (can you get just the mounting hardware? it broke, but fan is fine)

I think I have the "Y" splitter. But it requires software, is this normal?

Locate all the new drivers, the CyberBlade download didn't work (just checked for first time)

Add a USB network adapter. Is there another way to access Ethernet?

Did I leave anything out? Also, I was looking around at BadFlash.com, would you recomend purchasing the ROM or sending mine in to have it reprogrammed? I took pretty good care getting it out, I've worked with SMT for years and heated the epoxy up to make removeal easy.

I have to say, this is a great site. I can't believe all the you people are comming up with, a few years back, I would have LIVED here. I got out of electronics and into sysadmin, but still feel my roots calling me (never did throw away all my "stuff" or "junk" to most people). And I wish I had found this place before I gave away all those laptops, maybe 10 or so.
