I-Modding again (after 2 years) - help?

Can't believe it's been almost two years since I did my first I-Opener mod... I modded a V1 with a IMOD kit, 10GB HD, and put an audio jack on the thing.. I installed Win98 on it and it seemed to work great.

However, I had a problem I could never get to be fixed - USB perhipherals (like the Linksys USB Network adaptor) always ended up crashing in Windows 98. Since I needed this on a network, I put Win95 and one of those parallel port Ethernet adaptors on it and it worked fine. I then sold it to a company.

Now, two years later, I'm wanting one of these to put on my kitchen counter. I found that BadFlash had some for $49.99, so I ordered one and an IMOD kit (bracket, cable, keyboard adaptor). I also ordered an i-Op fan from Tennmax. (I forgot to order a new bios since it's a V5, but I will soon). I also have a 20GB 2.5" HD, so I have just about everything I need to get this working.

Is the above everything I need to get to get a V5 working? I've been contemplating getting a Microsoft 802.11b USB adaptor (BB has them for $49 after rebate), but am wary because of the USB problem I had with my V1. Is this the case with the V5 or has this been solved (if it has been solved, where is the solution)?

Thanks in advance - my wife's going to love this on the kitchen counter to look up recipies. :)

Need to get the new v540 BIOS by WildPencil. I've not had any USB crashes since flashing to it. Also, it allows navigating the BIOS setup screens with the original keyboard.

Where do I obtail this bios and DOS based flash program from?

I already ordered a new bios from BadFlash.... might as well have him reprogram the original one too so I can screw around. :)

I think that this is the link where WildPencil keeps the files.

http://briefcase.yahoo.com/wild_pencil

I believe that Badflash's BIOS chips come with the V540 chips.

I also moved a copy of the file to http://ITResource.com/V540.zip

WildPencil mentioned in another post that his Yahoo account was getting hammered. I'll set up a mirror site if demand is great enough.

I'd recommend WinXP over earlier OSes, since all system devices have built-in WinXP drivers.
All except for the built-in modem, just choose the generic Microsoft 56K modem driver, and it'll work fine.

WinXP with SP1 will cause BSOD, unless "onboard audio" is disabled in bios. The sound will still work, however. This is true for V3 IOpener with the Yamaha sound chip & v5.40 bios, at least.
