Ok here is what i get from the reading i have done. I have what i think is a V4 iopener, goop a plenty on bios chip
all ide pins are there and a rise 266 with the security torx screws. I have been trying to get the thing to boot to
dos so i can flash the bios. From what i have seen this is supposed to be possible. I have 2 drives which i have loaded with dos and they will boot fine on the pc i prepared them on, but here we go again, all i get is boot device failure when i try to boot them on the IO. The IO hd auto detect will id each drive fine (did this auto just to check ide communication) and i have formatted the drives and set the IO bios to 490/2/32 (yielded about 15.26 meg)which i have read it is supposed to be. What am i doing wrong or is my only option left to break out the picks and start digging the old goop off so i can replace the bios chip.

Thanks All

Unfortunately, the bios version you currently have cannot boot from anything but the 16 MB internal Sandisk.
The only other work-around involves the Sandisk's QNX operating system, and re-flashing the bios while booted in QNX.
This would involve connecting to another machine (using the IOpener's modem) which has the necessary bios file stored on it.
Do a search on this forum for "QNX bios flash", and see if the files needed, are still around somewhere.
"Removing the goop method" may or may not work, due to the poor quality of the bios chip socket. The socket may also require replacment, in addition to the bios chip itself. Good luck!
