Need help getting into QNX

I have been very excited about getting my own I-opener and doing some of the hacking that I read about. Now that I finaly have one of my own from e-bay I have been making a plan of attack. The only problem is that I can't figure out how to get to the QNX prompt. I have read countless threads and have see the (esc4444) or (tab44444) or just 4444 key combinations to get into it however, my biggest problem is that I dont know when to do this when the thing is booting up. When do you do it? And what is the more reliable combination of keys to get into it?

I have a V4b (dip switch above the ram) Black intro screen, no voice, it has dialed home up until may of 2001...any sort of help on this subject will be very helpful and give my eyes a rest.

The easiest way to get started is to get a new BIOS which permits you to boot from a hard drive. Dont bother with the QNX as its mostly useless.

Ooh, the much coveted V4b...

Yes, you will need a new BIOS before anything else. Easiest way is to buy a new chip; otherwise, you'll have to load a hard-drive with the "AnyISP" sandisk image and trick your IOpener into using it as "D:". The AnyISP image (well, the version I used to publish anyway) was cracked to allow you to get into the shell and flash the BIOS via QNXFlash.

Unfortunately, anything newer than a V2 won't allow those old tricks to gain access into QNX. If you really want to play with QNX on the Sandisk, you'll need to figure out how to copy an older or unlocked distribution (such as the "AnyISP" image) onto the Sandisk. It's actually a very respectable software/os distribution. Too bad the application built upon it (The IOpener GUI) isn't supported anymore.
