v5 QNX root password???

I got my hands on one of the v5 iopeners from BadFlash. Just trying to see if I can change the ISP it dials, to no avail. If I quit out when it tries to dial NetPliance, go to preferences, it give an error box saying it can't find the machine id in the database. Not too big a deal.

But by batting the keyboard around a little (pushed the power button on/off once, then hit the hang up button (original keyboard), and ctrl-shop (ctrl-f4?), it had dropped me to a login prompt.

Any idea what the default passwd for these things are? A little googling around suggests it grabs some randomness out of the NVRAM, but I find that hard to believe. I was hoping that some experts here could shed some light on the subject.

Thanks. I'll take my answer off the air. <click>.

The ones I am selling are AT&T units and can't be hacked without changing the bios chip. The Earthlink version is the only one with the AnyISP software. That is why I state on the order page: "These are un-modified AT&T refirbs" and "These units require a Bios upgrade chip to support a hard disk."

As far as I know, no one has been able to find a root password on a V5.

Jack, thanks for the reply. There is plenty of reading on how to hack the units here, but not necessarily how to use what is pre-installed. You're disclaimers were fine, you are not at fault, and I am totally happy with my purchase, and your service.

I was figuring that if the root passwd was known, I could change who it dials (probably just sits in the ppp scripts...). If I can't get what is installed to work, then I will take the more drastic step of hacking midori onto it. Can't fault a guy for trying to be lazy...

Go over to the technical section and check the image repository link and the section on any isp iopeners. You can download the anyisp image and after you have changed your bios file to the V540 or V540a you can then update the sandisk with the anyisp sandisk image. This will allow you to use any isp you want in the native IO mode. You can not use the e-mail any more as that is not supported.
