Interesting, IF ONE FEELS LIKE EXPERIMENTING? http://www.mcrent.com/workbench/dcdc1216/

ONE MAY be able to tweak this some (increase the voltage to 19V)using different values for R1/R2 or use a larger heatsink perhaps with a small cooling fan for more current :-/ ?

***CAUTION DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!*** This could get hot enough to burn you or be a serious fire hazard!!!
Don't hold anyone but yourself responsible if you fry your iopener or whatever! Test before using!

The IO will run on 16V just fine. This should run a stock IO with no troubles. Use the LM2587 and you can get 2 amps at 19V. That would run just about anything. There is a really cool site for designing power supplies at
http://www.national.com/pf/LM/LM2587.html
You need to registor to use it, but you just answe a few question and boom- you get schematics, parts lists, simulation. This is really pretty cool.
